Part 2 of our 3 part series that takes a closer look at moderate category resorts at the Walt Disney World Resorts in Florida!
In Part 1 – A closer look at the value resorts, we had a look at Disney’s All Star Resorts, Disney’s Pop Century Resort and Disney’s Art of Animation Resort.
As a Disney Specialist – one of the most common questions I am asked is “Where is the best place to stay at Walt Disney Resort?” The answer may surprise most guests when I initially say “I don’t know!”
Let me clarify! Your resort choice is almost as personalized as the style of clothing you wear. Some people prefer “wear – wash – and go” clothing. It’s inexpensive, functional, and quick to put together when you are in a rush. Others prefer to meticulously plan their outfits with high end quality pieces that are timeless, beautiful, and have a look that speaks to the time (and budget) it took to put that outfit together.

The ‘middle of the road’ category of resorts – Moderate Category – is the most popular category of Walt Disney World Resorts! Room pricing starts at $190 USD / night! These Disney Resort hotels surround you in exotically themed locales. Full-service restaurants and food courts offer all-time favourites. You will enjoy wonderfully themed pool areas with slides, as well as a variety of recreation.
For Real Family Travels the benefit of these resorts is that some of these resorts hold families of 5 (plus 1 infant in a crib) and 6 (plus 1 infant in a crib) without breaking the bank!
There are 5 resorts in this category: Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort, Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter.
Standard rooms average at 314 sq. ft. and are equipped with a Mini-fridge, Coffee Maker, Flat Screen TV, Wi-fi, and either a King or two QUEEN beds. (A nice upgrade from the Value Category Resorts) Microwaves are available upon request and are usually reserved for families with infants or medical requirements. (There are microwaves available in the food court as well).
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Cabins feature fully equipped kitchen, double bed and a set of bunk beds, separate living room with pull-down bed, full bathroom, DVD player, outdoor patio deck with picnic table and charboal grill, private parking and daily housekeeping!
Disney’s Moderate Category Resorts offer ‘Disney Story Rooms’! You can stay and play in magically themed rooms! You can slumber like a pirate in a ship-themed bed or live like royalty in quarters befitting a prince or princess!
Transportation to / from the theme parks and Disney Springs© is via Disney Bus Transportation system or Disney Water Launch service! (The Sassagoula Riverboat is a Real Family Travels favourite ride to Disney Springs for dinner after a long day!)
These resorts are perfect for families who:

Vegetarian, healthy options, sweets and treats are all available. The refillable drink stations are located in all the food courts as well! All food courts offer breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks.
